sunday funday: hosted by juan, dentist to the a-list

ok gays so i have put off watching the my little pony mess that is "the a-list" but on wednesday i drunkenly bought the itunes season pass. and i have watched two episodes. and i LOVE ITTTTTTT. i mean, there are some real winners and real winning moments on this gem of a show. i'm gonna roll them out slowly, but my first favorite is juan, ryan's "dentist" that also provides botox. what the f*ck is this? who? what? is the FDA watching this? not right. but totally jelsies!!!!!

anyhoo, to wrap up thanksgiving weekend i've uploaded some jams as tight as ryans face. so gays give thanks for juan - who knows what that mess would look like without his "anti wrinkle for the gums"

first look at the new tom ford women's collection

After a super-secretive showing at Fashion Week that allowed no press coverage, the first images of Tom Ford's new Women's line have finally been released. The December issue of American Vogue features four pages of the designer posing alongside his designs for S/S 11. In the interview that accompanies, Ford expresses an objection to the way that modern technology allows fashion images to be over-exposed before the clothes pictured can even be purchased. It has been six years since the designer left Gucci, the house that he reinvented and catapulted into the mainstream consciousness. Ford now designs for the customer who doesn't want to see a dress all over the red carpet before she can get her own hands on it. "My customer doesn't want to wear the same thing she saw on a starlet!," he explains in the interview. Ironically, Ford's personal aesthetic has never been more on-trend. As shown in the new spread, the YSL alum's style fits right in with the many 70s references that we observed at the S/S 11 shows.

balenciaga exhibit

starts november 19th at the queen sofia spanish institute..who wants to go?

BALENCIAGA: SPANISH MASTER
Friday, November 19, 2010 - Saturday, February 19, 2011

Balenciaga "Infanta" evening dress, 1939 Copyright, R.J. Horst - Courtesy Staley/Wise Gallery, NYC.

This November, Queen Sofía Spanish Institute will present BALENCIAGA: Spanish Master, the first exhibition to consider the impact of Spain's culture, history and art on one of its greatest twentieth-century sons, the legendary designer Cristóbal Balenciaga (1895-1972). Hailed as "Fashion's Picasso" by Cecil Beaton, Balenciaga's innovations transformed the way women dressed, from the opening of his Paris fashion house in 1937 until his retirement in 1968. His visionary designs and impeccable standards seduced generations of the best-dressed women in the world.

Following its inauguration by Her Majesty Queen Sofía of Spain, BALENCIAGA: Spanish Master will officially open to the public on November 19, 2010 and remain on view through February 19, 2011. The exhibition was conceived by Oscar de la Renta, Chairman of the Institute's Board of Directors, who has worked closely with the exhibition team to develop and realize the show. Mr. de la Renta himself began his career in fashion working in Madrid at Eisa, one of the Spanish branches of Balenciaga's fashion empire.

The exhibition curator is Hamish Bowles, Vogue's European Editor at Large and the curator of the 2001 exhibition Jacqueline Kennedy: The White House Years, which opened at The Metropolitan Museum of Art to widespread critical attention and acclaim, and later traveled to the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum in Boston, The Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, the Field Museum in Chicago, and Les Arts décoratifs, musée de la Mode et du Textile in Paris.

Showcasing more than seventy items of Cristóbal Balenciaga clothing and accessories, BALENCIAGA: Spanish Master is the result of an unprecedented collaboration between the House of Balenciaga in Paris and an American institution. Queen Sofia Spanish Institute is indebted to Balenciaga, which has opened up its Archives and whose immense generosity has enabled a unique loan of historically significant Cristóbal Balenciaga garments to the exhibition, in addition to access to the Archives' related materials and iconography. Masterpieces from this highly significant collection include Balenciaga's 1939 "Infanta" gown, and his four-point silk gazar dress of 1967 which illustrates the increasing abstraction and experimentation in his work.

In partnership with the Ministry of Culture of Spain, highlights from the Fundación Cristóbal Balenciaga include the extraordinary embroidered 1957 wedding dress of Sonsoles Díez de Rivera (daughter of Balenciaga's Spanish muse, the Marquesa de Llanzol), which is as splendid as the vestments of a Sevillana Madonna figure.

Additional objects such as matador boleros from 1946 and flamenco-inspired dresses from 1951 and 1961 come from museum and private collections in America and Europe. The material, some of which has never before been exhibited, includes highly significant pieces from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, The Hispanic Society of America, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Museum of the City of New York, and the Texas Fashion Collection, as well as Mr. Bowles' own collection and those of leading private couture collectors such as Sandy Schreier. The pieces will consist of garments commissioned and worn by some of the twentieth century's most iconic taste-making women - Pauline de Rothschild, Mona Bismarck, Thelma Chrysler Foy, Doris Duke, and Claudia Heard de Osborne among them.

Related support material will incorporate historical and regional Spanish dress.

The accompanying catalogue - written by Hamish Bowles; published by Rizzoli; and art directed by Alex González, Executive Creative Director of AR New York and former creative director of GQ, German Vogue, and L'Uomo Vogue - will have as its focus the influence of Balenciaga's native country on the designer's creative process and work. The exhibition will be designed by set designer Stefan Beckman, whose prestigious client list includes Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen, Cartier, and the Brooklyn Museum of Art.

For Diana Vreeland, Balenciaga's "inspiration came from the bullrings, the flamenco dancers, the loose blouses the fishermen wear, the cool of the cloisters." BALENCIAGA: Spanish Master will consider the influences on his designs of the country's great artists, from Zurbarán and Goya to Picasso, Sorolla and Miró, and of Spain's religious dress and ceremony, its royal history, its rich regional costume, its dance traditions, and the power and splendor of the bullfight.

Significant Spanish works of art and decorative arts will support the curatorial thesis of the exhibition to create a compelling, lively, and dramatic vision of Spain in all its glory, and the work of its most masterful designer.

Following its premiere at Queen Sofía Spanish Institute, the original exhibition will be expanded for presentation as Balenciaga and Spain at the de Young Museum in San Francisco from March 26 through July 4, 2011.

BALENCIAGA: Spanish Master will be accompanied by a series of related public programs including exhibition tours and lectures. To be informed of upcoming events, join the Institute's mailing list.

summer came and went and a lot of boxes were left unchecked: tan, boyfriend, sobriety, keeping up the blog, etc, etc.

BUT with the beginning of winter upon us, i am back. mostly because i still don't have a boyfriend, it's cold outside, and i'm too lazy to dress myself weather-appropriate. so i sit here in bed having just ordered a bacon ranch rodeo burger on seamless web and updating the blog. all for you gays. all. for. you.

today i offer five new hits that will for sure make you put down that cinnamon ginger bread man latte and get your ass on a treadmill. download away. i guarantee you wont be disappointed.

sooooooo sorry gays for the absence. i've been a bit distracted and that has meant that all my gay energy has been directed elsewhere. it's like i've been dating someone else but still leading you on. sending you texts all day and telling you i really like you then never breaking up with my boyfriend. hmmm how does that feel? not very good. bastard. who said that? anyhoo, now all that love is back to you. and boy do i have a lot of updates.

first up, in the spirit of togetherness and couples (vomit) i offer three new collaborations. first up is eminem and rihanna who make an angry pair, the faith and snoop with a breezy summer anthem, and lastly enrique and nicole from PSD with an airy romantice pop song. get it! download in comments.

thursday thoughts: hosted by She's All That

ahhh, deep thoughts courtesy of freddie prinze junior and some girl who i have no idea who she is. remember this little gem? i remember seeing it at least 17 times at the local mall, most often while shoving my face with gummy snacks and neverending gobstoppers. oh yes, i took it there. neverending gobstoppers.

why did i love this movie? it's a cheesy underdog story and as a fat gay kid, i ate that up. both literally and figuratively. i've carried that underdog spirit since, but it gets tiring sometimes. you feel me. sometimes you just want it to be you. but you gotta wait. and be disappointed. over and over. but that's ok. nothing a pack of golden oreos can't help.

oh, i also loved it because of this amazing dance sequence. god love usher.

ANYHOOOoooo, i digress. back you gays.

estelle / fall in love

tuesday talk news round up: hosted by Rhonda Shear from USA "UP...all night"

if you never saw the goddess that is rhonda shears hosting USA up all night, then take a seat, grab a bottle of arbor mist, and get ready to feel alive.

she was full of useful information, like push up bras. and hair bleaching/teasing techniques. things any good gay should know about. and speaking of, heres a little news round up for you:

1) XXXTINA'S RECORD LABEL KNOWS "NOT MYSELF TONITE" BLOWS
"Christina Aguilera’s comeback single ‘Not Myself Tonight’ hasn’t done too well on the US charts, managing only a #23 peak on the Billboard Hot 100.

Aguilera’s record label, RCA, have spoken out on their disappointment in the single’s performance. Check out what the label source had to say below.

New single soon soon?

Yes, there will be a new single on the way. But it’s not planned any earlier than the albums release.

Is RCA disappointed?

Yes, ‘Not Myself Tonight’ is what we believe to be a great song. Unfortunately it was analysed and “ripped” apart by the media – with comparisons and judgements.

Why did you guys fail so hard?

The pop music world is changing constantly, and we don’t view it as a fail. Sometimes things work, sometimes they don’t – and the time obviously wasn’t right for this release to achieve what it was meant to achieve.

Any big news??

Nope.

Pristine one more thing. You know if some countries like Japan or iTunes will have more tracks? Thanks.

iTunes tracks – you bet

Is “WooHoo” the second single?

Not at this stage, no. It was an intentional leak, and was not a leak of a 2nd single.

Have you heard the album? or seen the booklet?

Heard the album… yes. Can talk about it in depth, no.

Can you name a couple favorites?

I don’t know the names of them as they were played off the album to a group. I’ve known Glam from hearing it before, and there’s one towards the end of the album – I really sway towards it being the one featuring Peaches. Anyway, it’s awesome!

When Not Myself Tonight’s release, you mentioned several songs were considered as the 1st single… Care to share which were?

Glam, Bionic and another song that I forget were considered. It wasn’t Not Myself Tonight – that was a last hour decision by Christina and her reps. It wasn’t WooHoo either.

Woohoo leaked before anyone else leaks it! it was a on a risky bar of leaking !

Not really. If it leaked before the intentional leak, it wouldn’t have mattered.

Where they aware that ‘Not Myself Tonight’ was boycotted from radios?

Oh, they told us"

2) TWIEBER? JIEBER?

"Justin Bieber Fans Trick Twitter To Keep Him Trending High
May 17, 2010 - Digital and Mobile

By Antony Bruno, Denver

Oh those crazy kids and the Twitter. After the popular microblogging service made some changes to the process by which trending topics are ranked, Justin Bieber found himself knocked off the list. The changes now reward spikes in traffic over a short period of time rather than overall traffic around existing topics. That means new topics rise to the top faster than incumbent topics, affecting Bieber and others.

His fans responded by simply changing up his name, such as “Twiber” or “Jieber.” New takes on the name equals new spikes in traffic."

3) MUSIC AND THE CITY

The second instalment of Sex And The City hits cinemas on Friday 28th May, so you’ll soon find out who gets married (yep, there’s another wedding) and who gets the biggest hair in the flashback scenes. But what about the music?

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the tracklist includes Alicia Keys’ recent ode to New York (‘Empire State Of Mind (Part II)’) but she also found time to submit a surprisingly fresh cover of Blondie’s ‘Rapture’.

Dido returns with the dance-y ‘Everything To Lose’, while Jennifer Hudson (who played Carrie’s assistant in the first movie) has teamed up with Leona Lewis on ‘Love Is Your Colour’.

Things take a karaoke-esque turn when Liza Minnelli – who makes a cameo in the movie – takes on Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)’ and the movie’s leading ladies perform Helen Reddy’s ‘I Am Woman’ – but hey, true SATC girls do love a bit of karaoke (possibly) and the album’s tracklist perfectly sums up the general vibe of the show.

The full track listing is as follows:

1. Alicia Keys – “Rapture”
2. Dido – “Everything to Lose”
3. Cee-Lo – “Language of Love”
4. Erykah Badu – “Window Seat”
5. Natacha Atlas – “Kidda”
6. Michael McGregor – “Euphrates Dream”
7. Liza Minnelli – “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)”
8. Ricki-Lee – “Can’t Touch It”
9. Alicia Keys – “Empire State of Mind (Part II) Broken Down”
10. Jennifer Hudson and Leona Lewis – “Love Is Your Color”
11. Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon – “I Am Woman”
12. Sex and the City Men’s Choir – “If Ever I Would Leave You”
13. Sex and the City Men’s Choir – “Sunrise, Sunset”
14. Sex and the City Men’s Choir – “Till There Was You”
15. Shayna Steele, Jordan Ballard, Kamilah Marshall – “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered”
16. Liza Minnelli with Billy Stritch – “Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye”
17. Cyndi Lauper – True Colours
18. Aaron Zigman – “Divas and Dunes”

4) MAROON LAME

After a three year hiatus, pop rockers Maroon 5 will be back with their third album, titled Hands All Over, September 21st. For their latest effort they’ve teamed up with producer Robert ‘Mutt’ Lange, the man behind AC/DC’s Black in Black and let’s not forget his ex-wife Shania Twain’s monster album Come On Over. Rolling Stone managed to get hold of them and it sounds as if the new album will be a very poppy rock affair indeed.

reposted reviews:

Bimbo Jones Mix [7/10 ratiing] -- They kept it VERY simple on this mix. A very odd bassline was used as well, it's got this droning dark feel to it until it changes key during the chorus. Also her vocals are really drowned out in some of their mix. Overall just a bit too much on the 'bubble gum' tip for me personally. I wasn't crazy about this one and hope I don't hear it in clubs too much, lol. -- Listen here --> http://www.zshare.net/audio/762017644c91e90b

Dave Aude Mix [9/10 rating] -- I just noticed something while listening to this for the 3rd time, that it's always the same instruments for this guy isn't it? LOL. I notice all of his mixes have a similarity factor in the drums and basslines. It's his format and it works so i'm not hating! I think Dave did a great job on his mix with the incorporation of electric guitars and a ton of pad usage. It gave him a chance to really amp up the energy around Ke$ha's vocals. This will probobly be the preferred mix by many. -- Listen here --> http://www.zshare.net/audio/7620181754841dbf
