make a GLD - follow me on twitter

GLD? what the eff is a GLD? it's a Good Life Decision - as opposed to the usual Bad Life Decision that us stupid gays usually make.

make a GLD for once and follow me: getitgays

and no, that hot brazilian from last night was not a good decision - it was a necessary decision. haaaay!

things you can buy me: hosted by Hermes

would you do a mens scarf like this? too gay? too much? never too much?

thank youuuu

a little too gay for me: jennifer lopez and david guetta do donna summer's "on the radio" - new leak!

uhmmm...well i thought the gayest thing that was going to happen to me today was seeing reichen and his boyfriend at therapy happy hour. think again. this little j. lo gem just leaked. no one is sure if it's from her cancelled upcoming album or from an older session. it is interesting to hear j. lo meet david guetta, but the song is lacking a bit. but i'll let you be the judge. maybe i'm one too many vodka soda's in.

download in the comments. get it!!!

maybe i'll go home with you: hosted by Blake Mcgrath

Well gays, i know what you love. Dancing and half naked bodies. Well, introducing Blake Mcgrath - a Canadian professional dancer/choreographer who is getting ready to release his debut album on Universal Music. Just yesterday he premiered the music video for his first single "The Night (Only Place to Go)" on MuchMusic. The video has already been released on iTunes (Canada) and currently is #3. The track is standard Chris Brown/Taio Cruz fare, but the video is pretty sick. Video below and download is in the comments.

get it gays tv presents: alexandra burke's "all night long"

i love this song and while the singer looks like a drag race reject, i would do bad things to pitbull.

get it. GET IT: new kelly rowland gay summer anthem!!!!

wow. big gay day. first the alphabeat video and now this. kelly first debuted this now single - “Commander” - at the Winter Music Conference in Miami! The song was written by Rico Love and produced by David Guetta. “Commander” will act as Kelly’s international single release but the US will get a different (still unknown) first single.

while it's no "when love takes over" it's pretty sick. get it!!!

things you can buy me: hosted by Chanel F/W 2010 Accessories

very gay, i know. but the tweed bracelet COULD be pulled off. maybe. the metal bracelet is just sick. while it most likely requires a somewhat unhuman size wrist to wear, i love the metalwork.

thank youuuuu

get it. GET IT: new alphabeat video!!!!

well, what better way to make a gays day than to learn that one of you new favorite groups is releasing one of your favorite songs of their album!!! "DJ" is from alphabeats latest effort, "the beat is...". i have to say after seeing them live, that (a) i would do bad things with the lead singer, and (b) the other girl has a set of lungs on her. they're so cute and you can't help but feel happy listening to them.

official remixes are coming shortly, but in the meantime enjoy the video and the new single mix:

i'm definitely going to be singing this to mr. cluney during our happy hour gone bad this evening.

sophies back!

SOPHIE Ellis-Bextor is back to help the world rediscover its dancing feet after a three-year break.

The porcelain-skinned belle returns with club banger Bittersweet, and she reckons there’s never been a better time to burn up the dancefloor.

Sophie, 31, told me: “There’s a been a resurgence in the power of DJ. You only have to look at the fact that Bloc Party and Snow Patrol’s last singles had a trance edge.

“This is the longest gap I’ve ever had between records, but if I can’t make it work in this climate I should give up because everything is ’80s, a bit electro synthy and disco.

“That’s exactly what I’ve been doing, but the new songs are a bit harder. It’s the best stuff I’ve done. So let’s have a go.”

Sophie teamed up with the cream of the dance pop world on incoming fourth album Straight To The Heart.

She explained: “I’ve always focused on the bottom end and I’ve been very spoilt this time.

“I have Calvin Harris, Freemasons, Richard X, Sneaker Pimps, Metronomy and Cathy Dennis all on the record.

“I formed a good relationship with Calvin so we might work on more stuff.”

Sophie’s love of dance music has even seen her try out DJing with her husband and bassist Richard Jones, 32.

“We just have fun, it’s brilliant to play records we love very loud,” she said.

“Old disco, Prince, Bowie songs, feelgood pop.”

Sophie’s offspring are poised to join the business too. She said: “I want to take the family on the tour, my two boys love music.”

Bittersweet is out May 3.

GET IN ME

i can't. i just can't. what i would do in that water with him.

breaking news: new kylie album reported to be "best since light years"; gays worldwide let out collective "haaaay!"

apparently the editors of popjustice had a chance to meet with stuart price who is producing kylie's upcoming album. if you remember, he is responsible for the masterpiece that madonna's "confessions" album.

read on for the AMAZING news....

FIRST UP: THE SINGLE IS BIG BOLD DANCEABLE PROPER KYLIE.
This is the most important news, because if the singles come in the wrong order the whole thing falls apart. 'All The Lovers' is the comeback single '2 Hearts' wasn't, which is funny because it's written by the same people (ie the artists formerly known as Kish Mauve). In tone it's a bit like 'I Believe In You' (which until now was Kylie's best single since 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head') with a more danceable edge; a confident, worldly-wise voice in 'All The Lovers' replaces the slightly naive optimism of 'I Believe In You'. The song starts off with Kylie quietly singing "dance, it's all I wanna do, why won't you move? I'm standing here with you, why won't you move?". Kylie suggests that the dancing is important "even if it throws you to the fire, fire, fire" and as the HUGE MASSIVE CHORUS storms into view it's clear that the song's not really about relaxing while you dance, it's about relaxing into a relationship. In the chorus - backed by a brilliantly wibbly synth riff - Kylie sings "all the lovers that have gone before, they don't compare to you, don't be frightened, just give me a little bit more, they don't compare, all the lovers". The lyrics might not read like much but they're proper air-punchingly euphoric and defiant and a little bit overwhelming in the song. One of the oddities with 'X' seemed to be that some Fairly Fundamental Things had happened in Kylie's life but were ignored in the tunes. Part of this single's likeability comes from its message that "yes, a lot's happened and we've both been around the block a bit but what we have here is properly amazing so calm down and let's just get on with it". After a bit of verse-chorus-verse-chorus action everything drops out for the middle eight where it goes all breathy and intimate and hot and sweaty with Kylie's repeated request to dance then the track EXPLODES into the music from that YouTube clip she put up last week. It's confident and exciting and completely brilliant if not something of a masterpiece and all in all is 'a bit of a moment'. Apparently 'All The Lovers' only really came up in the last three weeks and very quickly took the position of lead single.

SECONDLY: OTHER TRACKS ARE ALSO V GOOD.
Stuart played us a handful of other tracks from the album. 'Get Out Of My Way' could well be this album's 'Love At First Sight'; 'Better Than Today', while similar to the version Kylie performed live last year, now seems to have a punchier, more stompsome production. Another song Stuart played us even though he wasn't meant to but what are they going to do sack him is a slightly 'Wow'-esque number which has a BRILLIANT 'Stuart Price moment' (you'll know it when you hear it) plus another segment in which everything falls away - Stuart describes this is "the moment in a club when you can hear glasses clinking". How very posh - the clubs we go to put everything in plastics. (NB 'Get Out Of My Way' will sound amazing in the sort of club that doesn't trust its clientele with glassware.)

THE TITLE TRACK IS IMMENSE AND RIDICULOUS AND FANTASTIC.
'Aphrodite' is the title track on 'Aphrodite', hence the name. Stuart likes its 'Rhythm Nation'-esque qualities; we felt there was a slight Art Of Noise-ish, 'True Faith'-ey thing going on. It would have fitted in well on 'X' and would have been one of the album's best tracks, not least for the line "it's the truth, it's a fact, I was gone and now I'm back". It's a lyric that underlines and puts into capital letters the idea that this, not 'X', is really Kylie's big comeback album. Elsewhere in the song there's a great "I'm going back and forth and forth and back, can you feel me in stereo" hook along with military drums and handclaps. On one listen it doesn't feel like a single but we think it's one of the songs that'll end up defining the album.

PROPER KYLIE IS BACK BACK BACK.
"She's got that glint in her eye," Stuart notes.

SONGS ON THE ALBUM WERE SUBJECT TO A 'PARTON TEST'.
In an interesting (and slightly demented) twist on the 'old grey whistle test' method of identifying potential hits, Stuart and Kylie knew a song would work if it made sense when sung in the style of Dolly Parton. Apparently Kylie does a particularly good Dolly version of 'All The Lovers'. Vocals on tracks that had already been recorded were re-recorded in Stuart's studio and rather than singing in a vocal booth Kylie would sing (using the pictured microphone) standing right in front of Stuart. The idea was to give 'Aphrodite' a sense of fun and spontaneity - and cohesion - that wasn't there with 'X'.

THE BEST SONGS WENT ON THE ALBUM.
Stuart explains that he got involved with 'Aphrodite' last October when he met Kylie in New York for a writing session. From that session "three or four" tracks remain, and from that point onwards he became a very significant force in the album's completion. As executive producer he's been responsible for shaping the album's sound - at one point on Friday he described it as a 'houseparty' record - which has meant a role in deciding which songs did and didn't make the cut but also mixing tracks so they all feel like they're part of the same album. Songs were picked, Stuart says, not because of who wrote or produced them, but because of how good they were. From what he said last week Stuart's involvement on a lot of songs has been slightly more than the conventional idea of mixing a track but slightly less than the conventional idea of producing it. Basically everything's gone through a bit of a Stuart Price filter so that it doesn't sound like some dickhead A&R has just aimlessly scooped a load of tracks off a shelf, chucked them in a sack, Sellotaped a photo of Kylie to the front, opened his window and shouted "THAT'LL BE £7.99 PLEASE" at people in the street.

NO BALLADS.
We asked Stuart if there were any ballads on the album and he said no (AMAZING), then clarified that point by adding "not in the accepted sense". When we expressed some relief at this, commenting that Kylie wasn't really known for her ballads, Stuart countered that 'Especially For You' was in fact something of a tune. It was hard to disagree with his point and that's a great example of why Stuart's precisely the sort of person who should be in charge not just of this album but ALL OTHER ALBUMS BY EVERYONE EVER. His "not ballads in the accepted sense" comment may mean that there are some interesting sort-of-ballad-sort-of-not moments, and 'All The Lovers' does have that slightly sad, crying-at-the-discotheque upbeat discoballad quality everybody loves. Stuart added that some ballads were recorded during the 'Aphrodite' sessions but just weren't quite right for this album and may well appear in the future when there's a place for them.

AND FINALLY: IT'S GOING TO BE A CONTINUOUS MIX
This may not excite you very much but it excited us an obscene amount. In keeping with the 'this is an album not just a selection of tracks' idea, Stuart's currently finding a way of stitching the songs together. The plan is that it won't be a non-stop megamix but there'll be a natural continuous flow that creates an 'official' order for the album's tracks. (Stuart didn't say this himself, but we guess it'll be a bit like Madonna's 'Confessions...'.) In an era when fans routinely create their own album running orders in iTunes, presenting 'Aphrodite' as a definitively sequenced body of work is a great way of showcasing Kylie's own confidence in what's shaping up to be her best album since 'Light Years'.

In summary: a truly incredible comeback single that'll sit alongside Scissor Sisters' 'Fire With Fire' as a solid gold summer pop anthem, the other tracks sound great, Kylie's on great form vocally, there's no need for anybody to panic about 'X Mark 2' and we can't wait to hear the rest of the tracks. THE END.

trend alert: young adults like to be smart

Young adults are demanding more from their social life — they want to be intellectually stimulated, challenged and entertained.

Beyond drinking and dancing, twenty- and thirty-somethings are seeking a little cerebral stimulation from their night out. Inspirational evenings, contemporary salons and reading groups are a burgeoning social option in New York, London and LA.

- D.I.W.O. (Do It With Others), is a collaborative approach that replaces the individual D.I.Y. trend

- Multi-functional Spaces combine retail/gallery/studio/café/event spaces into one

- Create a sense of community with added extras – in-store happenings and members-only events

- Niche interest groups that began via social media, evolve into vibrant offline communities

- Old-fashioned manners and social graces return as a welcome respite from the eyes-down age of technology

- Intimate living room soirées are the newest venue

--------------

really? really?

here's my gay translation:

intimate living room = barracuda
niche interest groups = manhunt
DIWO = haaaay

madonna sold only 28,000 copies in the US last week of her "sticky and sweet tour" cd/dvd combo. lucky for her, it was a slow week in album sales, and she debuted on Billboard at #10.

Cook-book misprint costs Australian publishers dear

Penguin said it was "mortified" over the "silly" mistake in its pasta cook-book
An Australian publisher has had to pulp and reprint a cookbook after one recipe listed "salt and freshly ground black people" instead of black pepper.

Penguin Group Australia had to reprint 7,000 copies of Pasta Bible last week, the Sydney Morning Herald has reported.

The reprint cost A$20,000 ($18,000; £12,000), but stock in bookshops will not be recalled as it is "extremely hard" to do so, Penguin said.

The recipe was for tagliatelle with sardines and prosciutto.

"We're mortified that this has become an issue of any kind, and why anyone would be offended, we don't know," head of publishing Bob Sessions is quoted as saying by the Sydney newspaper.

Penguin said almost every one of the more than 150 recipes in the book listed salt and freshly ground black pepper, but a misprint occurred on just one page.

"When it comes to the proof-reader, of course they should have picked it up, but proof-reading a cookbook is an extremely difficult task. I find that quite forgivable," Mr Sessions said.

If anyone complains about the "silly mistake", they will be given the new version, Penguin said.

today in gay, from gawker

Let's take a look at gay news of the day. There's a porn star who continues to be too gay, bisexual softball players who aren't gay enough, and a celebrity who is about to reveal just how gay they are.

Remember Brent Corrigan, née Sean Lockhart? He's the apple-cheeked pornography actor who was mysteriously banned from speaking at Yale. Well the mystery continues, as Corrigan/Lockhart's lawyer tells the Yale Daily News that his speaking engagement was canceled not because of some fee issues, as was previously offered as an excuse, but because the Pride Month coordinators didn't feel like they had enough time to prepare for the crazy storm of anger that would erupt across the hallowed campus should this barebacking twink-hunk arrive to tell his tale. And we all know the best way to work with people who are upset is to run away from them and thus indulge them. Brent Corrigan: Too Gay (for Yale).

Let's get on the Yale private jet here (you know they have one) and fly over to San Francisco, where a big bi brouhaha is boiling. According to the Seattle Times, three bisexual men are suing the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance claiming that they were banned from participating in the Gay Softball World Series (this is a thing) because they're only bi, not like Gay gay. There's a rule that only two heterosexual people can be on each team, and a rival team claimed that the bi dudes' team was in violation of that, even though they're bi, not straight. A Crucible-esque tribunal was formed and the following happened:

Each of the three plaintiffs was called into a conference room in front of more than 25 people, and was asked "personal and intrusive questions" about his sexual attractions and desires, purportedly to determine if the player was heterosexual or gay, the lawsuit alleges.
Oh my! Sexual attractions and desires! That sounds a little steamy, doesn't it? "Tell me, Mr. Bisexual, if I were to walk into your bedroom, nude and holding a spatula, what would you do? What would you doooo?"

In the end the tribunal found the men "nongay" and had them pressed under rocks like Giles Corey stripped their team of their second-place position and recommended a one year ban for all three men. So now they're suing for emotional distress money and a change in the rules. Goodness gracious what a mess. So, Bisexual Softball Players: Not Gay Enough (for gay softball).

Finally we turn our eyes to a stunning mystery. Supposedly there is going to be a big celebrity coming-out on May 5th. Naturally it will take place on the cover of People magazine, America's top choice for coming out location after your mom's car while she's driving you to the airport and Denise's basement. But zomgargoyles, who will it be??? Queen La? Zach Quinto? The regretful ghost of Dinah Shore? No one knows! You guys should speculate in the comments please. We hope it's a really exciting person. We hope it's 50 Cent. That would be amazing. Apparently the person is doing a big "coming out tour," so we'll have to guess, though, that's it's someone who's trying to create some celebrity, not someone who already has it. We're looking at you, Tom Bergeron?

Anyway. Unknown Celebrity: Just As Gay As They Need to Be (starting May 5th).

That's today in gay, guys.

hump day treats: hosted by the mexican mariachi band that alway sings on the 6 train

well hello gays. come here often?

for this edition of hump day treats, i'm taking it down a bit and doing a special acoustic only post. i often think silence is better (you verbal tops out there might think otherwise. ps speaking of, i know how to do it and no, i don't need explicit instructions. thanks.)

sugababes / about you now (acoustic)
one of their better more recent songs. this version completely changes it into a rather sad song. tear.

kylie / the one (acoustic to fast versioin from "live in nyc")
i think i cried at the concert when she performed this. then i started jumping up and down laughing. and i started doing both. classy.

agnes / on and on (acoustic version)
gays love agnes. period. and the acoustic version of this faster song does it justice, keeping the anthem feel. you get it agnes.

gfy

i'm a nice person. i've been called "too nice". so why would i even think about saying these three sweet little words to someone? well let's play out some scenarios:

Q1: hey lorne, is that something sweet and romantic like...i don't know, "i love you"?

A1: no. no it is not. it's something a little more profane.

Q2: hey lorne, is that something like "get in me"?

A2: no. no it is not. although i really like that phrase.

the three precious words i'm looking for are: go fuck yourself.

and sometimes people need to hear that. especially people with significant others or people who are hanging on to the remnants of a significant other.

one must wonder - when does it end up well. like every gay dreams it will. romantic with the one that we think is going to sweep us off our feet. the one we cry about at every straight movie we've seen since we were young, thinking yes, this is it. this is the one. not having to worry anymore. no more lonely meals. no more fifth wheel. no more solo saturday shopping or coffee. no more chasing, impressing, fitting in. all is right and it doesn't matter. you are you. and that's it. no justification. no games. no questions. no entire sharing of history. it's what is happening in the present.

but alas, there are no songs associated. just silence and loneliness.

that is all. don't get this gays. get a boyfriend.

well maybe one song. ms. beverly knight. she's gonna sing to you about why you fucked your life up and how you'll never get it back awesome.

sleep well!

xx

Girls Aloud Need 'A Miracle' To Reunite

The future of Girls Aloud looks even more likely to be in jeopardy after their main songwriter has claimed it would be 'a miracle' if the girls reunited.

Xenomania producer Brian Higgins who has worked with the girl band since their debut single Sound of the Underground, has stated that he believes the girls have enjoyed an unusually long career for a pop act and doubts they will ever work together again.

Higgins told ponystep.com: "If the band continues it will be a small miracle, but then, every album was for me anyway. That's why we put so much into it, because we couldn't believe that they'd come back to us. We never assumed they would, ever."

He added: "I think that the body of work in terms of released songs is 110 or 120 songs now. It is very rare that anyone will do that again, that any group coming from any scene will release five or six albums, because careers just don't last that long."

trashbox anthem alert: hosted by detective eliot stabler

so i just finished an episode of svu and managed to compile a list of all the unnatural, bad things i would do to christopher meloni. the tattoo? the shirt and tie? i would be his mariska hartigay anyday. bad haircut and all. sign mommy up.

on that note, i think its time for another trashbox anthem!! and uhmmm...well. what can i say about this little ditty. let me just through out the first verse to you all:

Kitten Heels, Lingerie,
Pantyhose, Foreplay,
Legs up, on the bar,
in the back of your car,
latex, champagne,
bubble bath, whipped cream,
cherry pop tag team,
can you make me scream

alrighty then. i mean i can check a lot of the above boxes but "cherry pop tag team"? i've watched some bad xtube videos in my day, but can honestly say that i've never seen anything like that...yet. haaaaaay!

me myself and i mondays: hosted by debbie downer

how does one follow up shameful sunday? by having a depressing monday and realizing you are going to be alone forever. hence, me, myself, and i mondays. blah.

and what does one listen to as they realize their life is going to be spent with their dog and all six seasons of sex and the city? see below.

wise up / aimee man
remember magnolia? tom cruise with long hair, raining frogs, philip seymore hoffman. lots of depressing things. this song is pretty haunting.

two is better than one / boys like girls feat. taylor swift
ohhhh so sweet. he knew they would be together from the first date. well check in cause that never happens. GFY boys like girls and stop putting these lies into songs.

original sin / elton john
another sweet love story, this time done very gayly by elton. even though its gay its still filthy nasty lies. GFY elton.

you were mine / dixie chicks
finally some truth. get em girls. i remember singing this when i was super drunk on my senior spring break in panama city beach when the teacher who taught deaf students that i was in love with rejected me because i was 17. in retrospect, probably a smart move. at the time? not so fun.

the one that got away / natasha bedingfield
me and my sisters anthem. gives all us single folk hope by providing examples of situations that will never happen. seeing someone through closing subway doors? someone turning around on the street? yeah they'll never happen. best you can hope for is waking up face down ass up in their bed with your fake tan all over their pillowcase.

ps. GFY = go fuck yourself

don't judge: volume I, hosted by cowboys 2000

this volume of "don't judge" gives you a hand selected bunch of cuntry hits from back in the day. while i never owned a cowboy hat, i might have gone line dancing once or twice and possibly rode a mechanical bull at one point at a place called cowboys 2000.

what is cowboys 2000 you ask? in 2006 it was named one of the top 3 most exciting nightlife options in springfield mo, my hometown. take a football stadium, throw in some mechanical bulls, ill-fitting jeans, american flag print shirts, and bud light and you get the magic that is cowboys 2000. notice that gays were not on that list. cowboys 2000 could tolerate a lot of shameful things, but the gays were too much.

BUT enough of that. on to the music...

i'm from the country / tracy byrd
where the green grass grows / tim mcgraw
ain't goin down till the sun comes up / garth brooks
cowboy love / john michael montgomery
i try to think about elvis / pam tillis
down on the farm / tim mcgraw
sold (grundy county auction) / john michael montgomery
i'm alright / jodee messina

sunday shame: hosted by the show "models inc"

what? you don't remember? don't pretend you never watched this little gem that while only on for one season, changed the face of television as we know it.

"In this spinoff from the series "Melrose Place," Hilary Michaels, the estranged mother of Amanda Woodward, is the owner, president and CEO of Models Inc., a top Los Angeles modeling agency which she runs with an iron fist and deals with all the usual problematic situations with the models and co-workers of the agency."

what could possibly go wrong with this deeply complex plotline? a lot, just like a good saturday night. which in turn, leads to...sunday shame.

macy gray / beauty in the world / cutmore radio edit
who knew? not bad.

mininova / one touch
these gals are super hot in the UK right now, produced by xenomania - the geniuses behind girls aloud and many kylie tracks.

ke$ha feat. travis mccoy / want u bad
no picture because you all know what this trainwreck girl looks like.
just released bonus track. nice use of the ol' guitar riff.
